Leah

Leah, the Unloved Wife

Mini Lesson # 2

In mini lesson #1 you should have discovered that Leah was older than Rachel, she was one of two daughters in her family, her father’s name was Laban and that there was something different about Leah’s eyes.

Whether Leah’s eyes were weak and unattractive or her best physical attribute, as some scholars have said, we can easily assume that she was no match for her sister’s physical beauty. In fact, several sources I consulted said Leah was described as a ‘wild cow’ or ‘gazelle’ while Rachel was described as an ‘ewe.’ Keeping this information in mind along with what we read in verse 17, compare Leah to Rachel.

Leah’s eyes were delicate, but Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance. Genesis 29:17

How does Leah compare to her sister?

Let’s talk about sibling rivalry for a moment. Do you think there was any kind of rivalry between Leah and Rachel?

How do you think Leah might have felt seemingly being the least attractive of the two?

Could the differences in their appearances have caused rivalry between the two?
