Mini Lesson # 7

When we last left Jacob he was being forced to come to terms with the trick that his ‘newly acquired’ father-in-law, Laban, and his ‘newly acquired albeit unwanted’ wife, Leah, had played on him. We also learned that Laban had given Jacob, what was to him, a most beneficial solution to the tangled situation and before Jacob could think twice he had pledged himself to work 7 more years for the young lady he thought he was marrying the first time.

As part of the deal, Jacob and Leah must spend one week together as man and wife before Jacob can marry Rachel. Leah’s requested week is over and now there’s a second wedding, Jacob can now marry Rachel, the girl of his dreams, the one he truly loves and longs for. The problem is that he now has two wives and they are sisters.

With each bride came a handmaid, who was Leah’s handmaid?

Who was Rachel’s handmaid?

The stage is now set for a life-long battle between Leah and Rachel. What is the battle?

to be continued ...
